WH Smith Could cut 1,500 jobs after Earnings plummet

WH Smith is currently contemplating cutting at 1,500 jobs – 11 percent of its workforce after the lockdown caused sales to plummet.

The majority of the jobs will be on the travel websites of the company, located at railroad stations and airports.

The company said the outbreak’s effects supposed it expected to report a reduction of #70-75m for the year on August’s end.

Group chief executive Carl Cowling stated: “While there’s been some advancement in our High Street industry, it will continue to be negatively impacted by reduced levels of footfall.

“As a consequence, we need to take additional actions to reduce prices across our companies. I regret that this is going to have an effect on a substantial number of colleagues whose functions will be impacted by these crucial actions.”

He added that the corporation would do”whatever we can to encourage them in this tough time”.

News of the cuts comes following a wave of redundancies that are retail. On Monday, DW Sports stated as much as 1,700 jobs were in danger.
